Nikos Marmatsouris joined GAC in 1991 and is currently the Group’s Senior Marketing Manager, covering the East Mediterranean, North Africa, Balkan & Black Sea countries as well as Russia and FSU countries.
His shipping career began in London in 1983, working for the Liner – sales department of FOSS Shipping. In 1984, he moved to Athens to complete his military service with the Hellenic Navy, where he clocked up two years of sea-going experience at the bridge of a Ro-Ro / Landing type vessel. Before joining GAC, he worked as Marketing Manager for Contship Container Lines Piraeus’ agency, Seascope Navigation, and Alfa Shipping.
Mr. Marmatsouris has studied Business Administration at London’s Metropolitan University and is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London. He holds the position of Vice President at I.C.S. Ali Deniz Eraydin
After graduating from Coventry University in the UK with BA Business Administration, majoring in Marketing, Deniz started his career as a Bunker Trader for CYE Petrol/Istanbul in 1995.
Between 1998 and 2008 he held the position of Operation and Sales Manager for the Company before being appointed as the CEO in 2009.
Deniz was the Establishing Board Member for the Turkish Bunker Association in 2001 and Vice Chairman for the Association between 2002 and 2005. He was elected as the Chairman of the Association five times (2006, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015).

Maria Nygren is Deputy Managing Director in The Confederation of Transport Enterprises, an umbrella organization for eight employers’ and trade associations, including ports and shipowners and which represents some 11 000 companies with about 170 000 employees
A trained lawyer, following studies at the University of Lund, Maria Nygren joined the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise in Stockholm and was later recruited to the Swedish Master Stevedores’ Association as head of the business division. Her first assignment was to pave the way for the takeover of the Swedish Port’s Association. Sweden joined the EU in 1995 and Maria’s strong commitment to European affairs eventually led to several assignments within the European Sea Port’s Association – ESPO – including Vice Chairman.
Maria Nygren has frequent contacts with decision-makers in politics and business. In 2007 she was promoted to her current position and has together with her team focused on opinion formation regarding the importance of transport for society, as well as influencing transport policy.
Maria Nygren is recognized as a skillful chairman and moderator at meetings. She was the WISTA Sweden President 2008 – 2012 and was responsible for the programme at the WISTA International Conference in Stockholm, 2011.

Oliver Hutchings studied International Development at the University of East Anglia before undertaking a diploma in law and subsequently sitting the Bar Vocational Course exams.
Following his call to the bar, he embarked upon his career at Charles Taylor in 2008. Oliver has worked extensively in the Mediterranean and European markets as well as working in the club’s Singapore office and more recently a secondment to New York for three years.
After returning to London in July 2013, Oliver took up the post of Syndicate Director for the Mediterranean Syndicate looking after the club’s business for members predominantly in Turkey, Greece, Italy, Monaco and the Middle East.
Jasamin founded Fichte & Co in 2005 in Dubai. She studied law in Hamburg and maritime law in Southampton and started her career as a maritime lawyer by gaining valuable experience in international law firms in Hamburg and London. Prior to founding Fichte & Co, Jasamin worked at the leading Lloyd’s of London insurance brokerage firm as legal counsel for the Middle East. She established an excellent network within the maritime community and developed her legal skills further by handling marine insurance claims, from salvage, collisions, wreck removal to cargo claims and personal injury. This gained her the reputation as one of the most experienced marine experts in the region.
Jasamin is a regular speaker at all major international maritime conferences and has participated in academic seminars on various legal topics hosted by both Governmental and Industry luminaries such as BIMCO, DSAA, DPA, DIAC etc. She has consistently published various articles on diverse subjects of marine, shipping and transportation law and is a frequent member of expert panels on topics as Ship Finance and Marine Insurance.

A graduate in Modern Languages, Janet Strode joined IPTA in 1990 as Manager, Regulatory Affairs after returning to the UK from Rotterdam where she had worked for a number of years in the chemical tanker industry.
With the granting of consultative status to IPTA as a non-governmental organisation to the IMO Janet was appointed Permanent Representative to the IMO in 1997 and as such has been closely involved for many years in the legislative process affecting the shipping industry in general and the chemical/parcel tanker industry in particular.
Janet has acted as project coordinator for a series of IMO workshops on the implementation of MARPOL regulations and frequently addresses trade conferences on regulatory issues. She plays a major part in the organisation of the IPTA/Navigate Chemical and Product Tanker conference held in London each March.
Janet is a shipping industry representative to the Chemical Distribution Institute Marine Executive Committee and serves on a number of industry bodies, including the EQUASIS Editorial Board and the FOSFA International Oils and Fats Committee, which governs the worldwide transport of animal and vegetable oils and fats.
In 2000 Janet was appointed General Manager of IPTA, tasked with ensuring coordination between members, regional shipping organisations and the legislature and trade regulators.

Dorothea Ioannou obtained her Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law in New York in 1996 and remains to date, a member of the New York State Bar Association. After relocating to Greece in 1997 she initially worked in local law firms dealing with cases involving European law, U.S. law, and general maritime law. In January of 1998, Dorothea entered the Marine Insurance Industry when she joined Allied Insurance Brokers Ltd. to manage the Marine Insurance Claims Department and served as Legal Advisor for Insurance/Brokerage matters.
Dorothea first joined SCB (Hellas) Inc., the Piraeus Claims Liaison Office for the American P&I Club, as a Claims Executive when the office opened in 2005 and took on the general management of the office in December 2009, as well as Business Development Director for the region. Dorothea is responsible for the day to day running of the Piraeus Office including supervision of all staff, represents the Club and its Managers in the region and also stands on the Executive Committee of the NY Management Company, Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc. (of which she was the first woman member).
Dorothea was named Global Business Development Director as of June 2015, making her the first woman to occupy a top level global executive position in the history of the American Club and its Managers, Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc. In this role, Dorothea’s main focus is coordinating business development efforts globally across all regions and across all business products.
Over the past 18 years of her career Dorothea has handled, advised on and directed the management of all types of maritime claims relating to P&I/FD&D but also Strike, LOH, and H&M insurance policies. As a result, Dorothea is a frequent speaker at shipping conferences both in Greece and abroad on aspects of Marine Insurance as well as developing hot topics impacting on the shipping industry.
Dorothea is also a the proud mother of a 16 year old daughter and takes this role as seriously as her shipping career gearing all her choices to ensure she stands as a positive role model not only for her daughter but young women in general.

Graduated from the University of the Merchant Marine in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as Licensee in Shipping Administration. Her professional career started with the attendance of break bulk shipments. Later on she became involved in the reefer transportation industry as chartering manager of a Dutch shipping line, Seatrade Groningen, in Buenos Aires.
She was in charge of freight negotiations with fruit, beef and fish exporters. After five years, she was hired by Maersk Line in Argentina to develop the containerization of reefer cargo , turning the fish and fruit shipments from reefer breakbulk into containers.
After 16 years of employment in Maersk Line, she continued the family company Agencia Maritima Intercontinental S.R.L. developing the Logistics Division of perishable cargo and the attendance of vessels as owners representative
Salih Zeki Çakır ( b.1957, Of, Trabzon, Turkey ), was graduated from Maritime Faculty of İstanbul Technical University in 1979. After graduation he worked on commercial vessels as officer and captain. In 1986 he went to Norway Oslo Maritime Academy and continued his training at the Department of Ship Management.
Then, Capt. Çakır returned to business life as Branch Manager at the Tramp Department of DB Turkish Cargo Lines. Meanwhile, continued his education at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Istanbul University. Serving to the Maritime Community for more than 30 years, Capt. Çakır has led to many projects aiming to sectoral development. He was amongst the founders of Piri Reis Maritime Foundation
and Istanbul Freight Index ( ISTFIX ).
For a period of time, Çakır has also assumed the role of Vice chairman at the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association ( GISBIR ). During his professional life, he has been the founder, shareholder and manager in many companies both domestic and abroad. Çakır is the Assembly member of Turkish Chamber of shipping and he was nominee at the Elections for President in 2013 where he lost, but he will be re-nominate in 2017 elections. Ms.Sanjam Sahi Gupta is Director for Sitara Shipping Ltd and Astral Freight Forwarders [Pvt] Ltd.and is heading the NVOCC business for the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East business.
Having joined the family business as a trainee in 2001, she has helped establish Sitara as one of the key players in the ODC and project cargo market handling prestigious projects such as for the US Defence Forces at Diego Garcia, a naval base.

Under her leadership Sitara Shipping Ltd. was awarded the ‘Outstanding family Managed Business 2013’Award at the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SP JIMR) Award ceremony on on February 9,2013.
In 2014 the International Womens Leadership Forum awarded her “Leading Woman in Shipping Business”.
She draws inspiration from her father who has taught her to excel with determination, hard work and willpower. She has seen how he raised the company with his sweat, blood and toil, and will follow his vision to take Sitara from strength, to strength.
Her dream of setting up WISTA in India became a reality as WISTA India was launched on the 7th December 2012. The Sailor Today Magazine gave her an award for making WISTA India the ‘Most Promising Association in 2013’.
Nuvara Uslu Erdonmez is a shipbroker and has been working professionally since 2002. She has a Bacherlor’s degree in Economics from the Bogazici University ,Istanbul, Turkey. She started her career in Maersk Logistics, from where she moved to Profilo Holding as Assistant Export Manager and then became a partner in Metal Chartering Co Ltd. She is still working as an active shipbroker and owner of Ela Chartering Co Ltd.
With her background in Economics she has been involved in the successful launch of both global and local high profile projects . She is very active in national and international professional and business associations. She was the founding President of national chapter of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association [ WISTA Turkey] from 2009 to 2011. She was also a member of the international board of WISTA from 2010 to 2012 and on the executive committee of the Turkish Shipbrokers’ Association from 2013-2014. She is a member of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Mr. Burak Akartas is the president of Akartas Investment Holding and Pacific Shipping Group.
After being graduated from Zonguldak TED College, he studied Civil Engineering at Kocaeli University and obtained an associate graduate degree in Geophysical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. However, Mr. Akartas elected to enter the challenging sector of shipping, even before completion of his studies by establishing Pacific Shipping Agency at Kocaeli, Turkey in 1999. This modest beginning was the prologue of the evolution to a Shipping Group of today integrating Ship-Owning, Ship-Management, Chartering, Project and Logistics, Ship Repairs.
The Pacific Shipping Group today manages a fleet of ten world-wide trading vessels, fixes hundreds of charters annually, undertakes transport of project cargoes and logistics for global clients and provides ship agency services to international ship-owners.
The last years, Mr. Akartas expanded the range of his business in other competitive and thriving sectors ranging from software development to construction and real estate.
Mr. Akartas is experienced in chartering and proficient in all aspects of ship-management, the founding stone of today’s Holding Group of companies, nonetheless he has the vision for development and growth in other challenging and diversifying business fields. Before joining SCB, Müge practiced maritime law at well-known maritime law firms, respectively in Istanbul and New York, where she practiced a wide variety of maritime and admiralty cases.
Müge joined SCB in 2006, and in 2013 became Global Manager of FD&D to oversee handling of FD&D matters worldwide. In addition to FD&D, Müge also handles a wide variety of complex P&I cases. She represents the Club in the Defense Industry Forum, along with the other FD&D directors of International Group Defense Clubs. Jeanne M. Grasso is a partner at Blank Rome LLP, Vice Practice Group Leader of the Maritime, International Trade and Government Contracts Practice Group, and Co-Chair of Blank Rome’s Maritime Industry Team. Jeanne focuses her practice on maritime and environmental law for domestic and international clients. She regularly counsels owners and operators of vessels, cargo owners and facilities on maritime and environmental issues. Her practice involves counseling on all aspects of maritime and environmental regulatory compliance, including Coast Guard, Maritime Administration and Customs matters; internal and grand jury investigations; defense of administrative, civil, and criminal enforcement actions; and pollution incident response.
Jeanne is a guest lecturer at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where she speaks on legal issues related to pollution response for the Academy’s Qualified Individual training program. Jeanne writes and lectures extensively on criminal enforcement of environmental laws and Coast Guard regulatory matters. Shehara is the President of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association in Sri Lanka. Orkun Özek was born in 1976 in Istanbul. He graduated from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Naval Architecture.
Mr Özek has been serving as the Board Member and the General Manager of Navtek Naval Technologies Inc since 1999. Besides, he is a Board Member of GISAS Shipbuilding Industry Co. Inc.
Since October 2011, he has been acting as the Board Treasurer of the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR) carrying out activities in national and international platforms. Mr Özek is also the President of GISBIR Technical Works and R&D Commission.
Prof. Dr. A. Güldem CERIT received her B.Sc. degree from the Chemical Engineering Department of the Middle East Technical University, Ankara. Dr. Cerit worked for the private industry for nine years at various engineering and marketing positions all at managerial levels. While in the private industry, Dr. Cerit completed the MBA program and the Ph.D. degree in the Marketing discipline of the Business Administration Program at the Dokuz Eylul University. She joined Dokuz Eylul University School of Maritime Business and Management (founded in 1988 as the leading Turkish higher education institute in the maritime business area, the medium of instruction being English, turned into Maritime Faculty in 2009) in 1993 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Cerit has served as the Director/Dean of the Faculty since 1997. Dr. Cerit has received her Associate Professor and Professor degrees in Maritime Transport Business discipline.
Dr. Cerit lectures at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in various maritime transport and logistics related departments and programs. She supervises undergraduate, MSc and PhDtheses in these disciplines.
Dr. Cerit’s research area concentrates on marketing applications in the maritime industry. Her studies have been published in national and international journals and edited books. Dr. Cerit has presented her studies at major international maritime conferences held in numerous countries. She has realized individual lectures at colloquium seminars of several universities in the USA. She has also participated in the organization of several international scientific meetings. Dr. Cerit was the winners of the Maritime Prize at the 8th World Conference on Transport Research-WCTR that was held in Antwerp on July 1998 and the “Hanjin Prize” at the International Association of Maritime Economists-IAME 2003 Conference that was held in Busan, Korea. She is a member of IAME (International Association of Maritime Economists), WCTR-S (World Conference on Transport Research Society) and Turkish Marketing Association.
Mr. Tezcan Yaramancı, honorary CBE, is a former President of Turkey’s Privatization Administration, Chairman and CEO of Turkish Airlines, Vice Chairman of Doğan Group and Executive Vice President of Koç Holding.
Having controlled companies and activities in different sectors during his professional career, Mr. Yaramancı in 1996 established his own Consultancy Company İnvesta Inc., which has concluded many finance and M&A projects since then and continues to provide strategic consultancy as well as financial advisory services to foreign and local business circles.

Asmaa Benslimane was Marsa Maroc’s Freight Forwarding commercial responsible at Casablanca port, She has a great experience in Port Operations through the various leadership positions she held at Casablanca Port since 1999. Asmaa holds a Master degree in Global Purchasing and Logistics, ISCAE Bachelor in Finance and Accountancy. She is also NLP Master Practitioner certified by the Society of NLP (USA) and she holds the Diploma of International Trade delivred by International Chamber of Commerce Morocco (ICC) and more other certificates in various fields.
Asmaa Benslimane is a well known name in the field of voluntary work both nationally and internationally. She is the first Moroccan to join Junior Chamber International Board in 2013 when she was elected International vice President assigned to eight African countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, the Comoros Islands, Madagascar and Botswana). She is the first Moroccan woman graduate from JCI Leadership Academy in Tsukuba (Japan) in 2010, the first Moroccan woman honored as Senator by JCI Morocco, and also the first moroccan woman appointed new leader by Crans Montana Forum. She was nominated by USAID among the 50 young people who are making Morocco. she was named the Best JCI Morocco National President and the best ambassador in 2011. She is also the Founding President of Association Bébés Du Maroc.
Engin Koçak, was born in Istanbul in 1981. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Yildiz Technical University and an MBA degree on Finance from Istanbul Technmical University.
Engin Koçak joined Istanbul branch of Rotterdam based boutique ship finance brokers FinShip in 2006 and became a Senior Associate in due course, specializing in financial analysis, wet & dry short sea shipping markets, debt and equity financing as well as restructuring and distressed loans. In early 2011 he joined ISTFIX, (Istanbul Freight Index) and has been leading the short sea research since then. Aside from coastal general cargo business, Engin Koçak is also specialized in global LPG markets research.
Bahadır Tonguç began his professional career in 1993 in his family’s company on management of owned and chartered-in fleet of bulkers, along with shipbroking and agency activities. After working in renowned shipping companies, he founded Supramar Ltd. in 2007.
Apart of his flagship Supramar, he is the managing partner of agency services company Mirali Maritime and the managing director of breakbulk liner operator Coli Project Cargo (CPC) Shipping Ltd. in Turkey.
Mr. Tonguc is a founding member of Shipbrokers Association of Turkey (GBD) where he served as vice-president for two terms. He is a ‘Chartered Shipbroker’ and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK), Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Associate member of Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb) and a supporting member of London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA). Admiral Metin Ataç was born in Istanbul in 1946.Upon compeletion his elementery school education, he joined in the Naval High School located in the Heybeliada (one of the Princess islands). At the end of his High school and Naval Acedemy education he became a Naval officer and joined the Turkish fleet in 1967.
He served on board various ships as branch chief ,department head and executive officer, then he became commanding officer of a destroyer.After the command position on board he also served in the posts of various headquarters and shore duties,then he became filotilla commadore in the rank of captain.
In 1992, he became Admiral, as Admiral ; he served on various command duties at sea, and Admiral posts in the various headquarters.
In 2005, he promoted to the rank of Admiral as four stars, and assigned as Turkish Fleet Commander.
In 2007, he became the 22nd Naval Chief of the Turkish Republic. After his 49 years of uniformed life, he retired in the year of 2009.
After his retirement, he became the member of Board of Governors of Piri Reis University.
In 2012 , he organised the First International Eurasian Maritime History Congress in Istanbul, during the congress he served as the President of Congress.In the same period, International Association of Maritime Studies (IAMS) was found with the participation of
22 countries and Admiral Ataç has been elected as the First President of IAMS.
In 2014 he organised the Second International Maritime History Congress in St Petersburg together with Lichnost Peterburga Historical and Cultural Foundation.
115 accedemitions from various countries have participated in the Congress. In between the two big Congresses, IAMS has also carried out workshop in Venice on “Mediterrenean İn History” together with the University Ca’Foscari.
In May 2015 he organised a workshop in Cyprus on “Maritime History of Cyprus and The Levant” together with Piri Reis University ,Kyneria Maritime University and Near East University .

Since 2000, Katerina has been with Investments & Finance Ltd as Executive Director. The company is an investment banking boutique, engaged primarily in ship finance. The company has offices in Piraeus and London, and since its inception in 1987, has intermediated in transactions entailing bank debt, private and public placements in excess of $20bn, mostly in the shipping sector. As Executive Director, Katerina’s main responsibility is to lead and manage multiple consulting engagements, assisting clients in boosting company value. Further responsibilities also include structuring of public and private bank debt financings and restructurings, financial engineering, equity raising (private and public), and M&A transactions on behalf of clients.
Katerina started her career in shipping in 1986 as Assistant CFO for Athenian Sea Carriers, one of the traditional and prestigious Greek shipping Groups, and continued into Banking in 1992 as Head of Shipping Finance for two Greek private Banks, responsible for setting up and developing their shipping loan portfolios. She was also a Credit Committee member of these banks.
She is an active member of WISTA Hellas and is currently serving her second term as Executive Committee Member of WISTA International. She is also a member of the Greek Shipping Bankers Association and a Mentor and Board Member of iforU, a non-profit organization for the empowerment and support of young women entrepreneurs through Mentoring & Networking. Katerina is also a Lecturer on Shipping Finance at the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Finally, Katerina is a frequently invited Speaker and Moderator in International Shipping Conferences held in Greece and abroad on Shipping Finance and General Maritime issues.
She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Finance from the University of Maryland, USA. She is fluent in Greek and English, with basic knowledge of French.
